What models do you think I can handle with Vray RT GPU? How many millions of polygons and textures?

Nice config. I'd do something very similar as well. Some small thoughts.

    - Hydro CPU cooler - Great choice, I have the Antec one. Easy to install, works great. Dropped my temps on my rig 40F (from ~80F to ~40F)
    - 1TB Harddrive - I'd go bigger, a 2TB isn't much more for double the capacity. This helps a lot because then you can copy your entire Assets library to it (all your maps, proxies etc.) 2TB isn't much more. If you're spending this much go 2+TB.
    - Good ram choice, we just bought some of this at the company and bout about (32 of these sticks and had a bad one, don't forget to run memtest86 when you put it in, just FYI).
    - Please tell me you're going to overclock this cpu. It'll be nothing to get it to 3.8, but I'd shoot for 4ghz and if you're solid go for 4.2ghz. If you're hesitant allow me to persuade you. Read up on overclocking with your motherboard and don't be afraid, modern CPUs are pretty hard to smoke/brick. Double check everything, get it up and running and stress test the crap out of your machine with Prime95.

Enjoy! This will be a great system, I'm building one soon too, let me know how it goes.

      Hi Colin, thank's for considerations...
Now i've two HD 320 GB in raid 1, materials and other things are in a separate disk; I think that hard disk 1TB is sufficient for me now!

I'm studying for make a good overclock this system, until now i've overclocked all my workstations

      Bye

Excellent. Let us know your benchmarks (superPI works decent for a raw cpu test) I'm curious to know how mine stacks up currently. With a benchmark or two, you might convince me to upgrade computers very soon, and to be honest, I WANT to be convinced!

          Heya

I hope its not too late but...

2 x Western Digital 1TB WD1002FAEX 7200rpm 64MB Caviar Black SATA6 € 190.00 = this is not ENTERPRISE HDD, you need enterprise RE4 hdds. I would not trust commercial work with descopt type HDD...

1 x Crucial SSD 256GB Serie M4 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s € 187.00 - I got this SSD... one think to remember its 500down/250up or so... its not 500/500 ! or other way around.

1 mil polygons = 100 mb. On 3 gb you can fit 30mil polys +/-

            Thank DADAL.

I've replaced previous HD for RAID 1 with these:
            2 x Western Digital 1TB WD1003FBYX 7200rpm 64MB WD RE4____210,00€

For the crucial M4 you have reason, but it's a good compromise cost/affidability! right?
A good solution is Intel SSD 240GB 2.5" 520 Series Serie SATA 3 rt, but it costs over 100,00€ over!

Good the value mb/mln of polygons, then 4gb of ram are right for my works!

              Heya

thats very good u went with RE4.

As to M4 I dont say its bad HDD. I got one myself I just say so u dont get surprised...

I have 4x RE3/4 cant remember which ones 2x raid 0. Its 4 years coming up and they still go like crazy...

I have enermax 1050Wats... It broke 3x just so u know The company is in germany so bit of a pain in the ass to RMA from UK. The last time it breaks I just open the shiet and fixed it myself in 15 min... screw RMA next time it breaks I get new PSU

as a side note did you considered EVGA sr 2 + 2x XEON / OC to 4+ghz? might fit in budget...

I mean EVGA dual socket motherboard not GPU. Then you can have 2x xeone56xx so 12 cores/24 threads at 4ghz+

Ops...I've misunderstood. I don't ever had a xeon cpu, but it don't attract me much!
I don't know why, maybe because of the cost...

I've searched yesterday some configuration with double xeon, but is well over my budget! (online italian stores)

                    Thank you

Humh the xeon E56xx ? Yea they a bit pricy.. but you have 2x 4ghz so its about 48+ ghz of power... you can push them to 4.5 giving you around .. 54ghz

I have a build like this (Asus mobo though and Quadro 600), the CPU runs easily at 4,5GHz and Cinebench score is around 13,50. Beast of a machine. I belive you DO need a new computer.
